Looking at references and working on backgrounds

After we worked on the script and decided what we want the story to be, we then worked on the different roles that we would assign to each person. I was mainly in charge of the layout and backgrounds and as that was the biggest role I was assigned to I started to work on the different camera shots and angles and research roman backgrounds.

As the film was set in historical times, I believed that researching ancient roman locations would definitely help me create backgrounds that would help the audience aware of the location but also become part of it and be engaged with the story. As well as looking at various different image sources online, I also decided that it would be a good idea to try and use the library to source books that would contain original pictures of those times in order to help me visualize the settings better. Doing so, really gave me an insight of how things really used to look like rather than just looking at other people's interpretations of it which then helped me to set the time and place of the film more clearly and also being able to portray the historical sense in the film.

I also looked at various different references online, not only relating to ancient Rome but also looking at images that are useful in terms of setting the mood, different lighting or colour theme which I believe will help me greatly when designing the backgrounds.
